Summer Programs | Elm Park

Mini Aces Camp (6.0-7.6 yrs)

Start or continue learning the fundamentals of tennis in a positive environment. This fun half day camp focuses on developing a tennis foundation, including fundamental movement, tracking, and racquet skills. Students enjoy various activities that encourage the development of motor skills and physical literacy.

 

Student Background

  • Has some or no experience in tennis

  • Beginning to develop technique for groundstrokes

 

Development Focus

  • Develop fundamental forehand and backhand technique

  • Develop timing of swing with bounce of ball

  • Develop ball tracking skills

  • Develop a love for tennis in a positive environment

Junior Fundamentals + Aces (7.6-10 yrs)

Develop a strong tennis foundation in a fun and supportive environment. This half day camp is designed for beginners AND players with experience. Students will develop their skills each week through high energy, game-based lessons that follow the Summer Smash Progression. Students will be grouped according to age and skill to ensure appropriate level of challenge and progress.

 

Student Background

Beginning or continuing to:

  • Develop or refine technique for groundstrokes

  • Develop consistency rallying in the ½ court to full court settings

  • Develop technique for serve

 

Development Focus

  • Continue to develop groundstroke technique

  • Improve ability to rally with limited use of or no self-rallies

  • Become familiar with shot-cycle

  • Develop proper serve technique fundamentals

Youth Aces + Performance Camp (11-16 yrs)

Improve consistency and control in a fun and encouraging environment. This half day camp is designed for players with experience who can rally consistently. Students will further develop ball control (direction, height, distance) and technique following the Summer Smash Progression. Students will be grouped according to age and skill to ensure appropriate level of challenge and progress.

 

Student Background

  • Can rally 10 in a row with forehand and backhand from ¾ to full court 

 

Beginning or continuing to:

  • Develop technical ability for different phases of play

  • Develop technique for serve

  • Develop consistency rallying in the full court settings

 

Development Focus

  • Continue to develop or refine groundstroke technical foundation

  • Improve groundstroke consistency

  • Improve shot-cycle consistency and efficiency with movement in three directions

  • Develop fundamental volley technique

  • Develop full motion serve technique

  • Develop or improve to add height and direct the ball

Teen Fundamentals (13-18 yrs)

Start learning tennis in a fun and supportive environment. Lessons provide beginners with little or no experience an introduction to the game through high energy, game-based lessons that use the ¾ stage of the progressive tennis model. An emphasis is placed on inspiring a love for the game while building a strong technical foundation.

Beginning or continuing to:

  • Develop ability to rally consistently from the ¾ court settings

Improve consistency of groundstrokes, volleys, and serve. An opportunity for players with experience (2.5-3.0 NTRP rating) to refine technique while improving reception of wide, high, low, deep, and short balls. Through game-based learning, students will improve their ability to play within cooperative and competitive settings.

 

Student Background

  • Can consistently rally 10 in a row from baseline with forehand and backhand controlling direction

  • In the process of refining technique for groundstrokes and volleys 

  • In the process of developing correct movement and positioning

  • In the process of developing consistent full motion serve

 

Development Focus

  • Refine groundstroke technique

  • Improve groundstroke consistency

  • Improve groundstroke shot selection in singles and doubles context

Improve your shot quality, shot selection, and tactics through drills and point play. An opportunity for seasoned players (3.0-3.5 NTRP) to increase the effectiveness of their shots including groundstroke, volley, and serve. Class is taught by a Senior Coach.

 

Student Background

  • Can consistently rally 10 in a row from baseline and net with depth

  • Technically proficient groundstrokes, volleys, and serve

  • Has experience with all phases of play and transitioning between phases

 

Development Focus

  • Improve consistency and quality of shot production

  • Improve strategic use of topspin and slice 

  • Refine footwork to transition between different phases of play

  • Refine doubles specific strategy and shot selection

Key Information

Logistics

  • All students MUST print off our activity waiver found on our website and bring a signed copy to the FIRST class

  • Lessons take place at Elm Park (43rd Ave and Larch)

  • Students are expected to bring their own rackets and dress in athletic attire with athletic shoes

  • Students are expected to wear sunscreen and a hat, and bring water

  • In the case of rainy or questionable weather, classes may be cancelled. The instructor will contact you. Refunds will be issued at the end of the session.

  • No classes Monday, July 3, 2023 (Canada Day) 

  • No classes Monday, August 7, 2023 (B.C. Day)
