Junior Fundamentals + Aces Camp (7.6-10 yrs)

Develop a strong tennis foundation in a fun and supportive environment. This half day camp is designed for beginners AND players with experience. Students will develop their skills each week through high energy, game-based lessons that follow the Summer Smash Progression. Students will be grouped according to age and skill to ensure appropriate level of challenge and progress.

 

Student Background

Beginning or continuing to:

  • Develop or refine technique for groundstrokes

  • Develop consistency rallying in the ½ court to full court settings

  • Develop technique for serve

 

Development Focus

  • Continue to develop groundstroke technique

  • Improve ability to rally with limited use of or no self-rallies

  • Become familiar with shot-cycle

  • Develop proper serve technique fundamentals

  • Develop a love for tennis in a positive environment

Mini Aces Camp (6-7.6yrs)

Start or continue learning the fundamentals of tennis in a positive environment. This fun half day camp focuses on developing a tennis foundation, including fundamental movement, tracking, and racquet skills. Students enjoy various activities that encourage the development of motor skills and physical literacy.

  • Has some or no experience in tennis

  • Develop fundamental forehand and backhand technique

  • Develop timing of swing with bounce of ball

  • Develop ball tracking skills

Learn how to play tennis in a small group setting. This course provides an introduction to the game with an eventual progression to rally and play within the full court setting.

Continue developing fundamental skills in a small group setting. This course builds on technique and strategy from Adult Beginner in order to become more confident rallying and playing with serve within the full court setting. Students should repeat this course until they can confidently rally from the baseline with forehand and backhand.

  • Can rally 10 in a row with forehand from ¾ court

Adult Beginner++ (2.0)

Solidify your foundation for all strokes. Players who can rally consistently continue to develop ball control (direction, height, distance) and technique within cooperative and competitive contexts. An emphasis is placed on developing technique and ability for groundstrokes, volley, and serve. Students should repeat this course until they can confidently control the direction and height of forehand and backhand within a full court rally.

  • Can rally 10 in a row with forehand and backhand from full court

 

Beginning or continuing to:

  • Develop technical ability for different phases of play

  • Develop technique for serve

  • Develop consistency rallying in the full court settings

Adult Intermediate (2.5-3.0)

Improve consistency of groundstrokes, volleys, and serve. An opportunity for players with experience (2.5-3.0 NTRP rating) to refine technique while improving reception of wide, high, low, deep, and short balls. Through game-based learning, students will improve their ability to play within cooperative and competitive settings.

 

Student Background

  • Can consistently rally 10 in a row from baseline with forehand and backhand controlling direction

  • In the process of refining technique for groundstrokes and volleys 

  • In the process of developing correct movement and positioning

  • In the process of developing consistent full motion serve

 

Development Focus

  • Refine groundstroke technique

  • Improve groundstroke consistency

  • Improve groundstroke shot selection in singles and doubles context

  • Learn or improve transition to net

  • Learn or improve basic

Key Information

Logistics

  • All students MUST print off our activity waiver found on our website and bring a signed copy to the FIRST class

  • Children's lessons take place at McBride Park  (5th Ave and Waterloo St)

  • Adult lessons take place at McBride Park and Tatlow Park (2nd Ave and Macdonald St)

  • Students are expected to bring their own rackets and dress in athletic attire with athletic shoes

  • Students are expected to wear sunscreen and a hat, and bring water

  • In the case of rainy or questionable weather, classes may be cancelled. The instructor will contact you. Refunds will be issued at the end of the session.

  • No classes Monday, July 3, 2023 (Canada Day) 

  • No classes Monday, August 7, 2023 (B.C. Day)
