Job Title: Tennis Instructor

Are you an enthusiastic and energetic tennis coach that has a passion for teaching and working with young children?

Summer Smash Tennis in Vancouver is looking to hire an enthusiastic tennis instructor for the outdoor season starting May 2021. The role of the instructor will be to coach lessons during the summer season, including summer camps, classes, and private lessons. Instructors who possess a playing skill of a minimum 4.5 may have the opportunity to provide hitting lessons with adults and high performance juniors.

Since 2012, Summer Smash Tennis has provided high quality tennis programs and classes to community centres and schools across Vancouver. Our coaches are certified instructors who have worked with hundreds of students to inspire a passion for tennis and sport. We share a common goal of creating safe, fun, and challenging learning environments for all students. Through the use of the Progressive Tennis teaching method, students are given the foundation to excel as players for life.

 

Job Description:

The instructor will be available for the 2021 outdoor tennis season and will report to the Directors and Head Coach. They will be an important part of the coaching team and must be able to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and possess a keen willingness to learn the Summer Smash Tennis progression. Throughout the season the instructors’ main duties will involve group and private lessons for children. There may also be opportunities to do hitting lessons as well as get involved with adult clinics based on qualification and past experience.

 

Summer Smash Tennis is seeking a Tennis Canada Certified Instructor to fill the Tennis Instructor position for the 2020 outdoor season that runs from early May to late August.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekend training sessions for coaches taking place in May and June

  • Learn and master the Summer Smash Tennis weekly camp progression

  • Teach tennis fundamentals to elementary and high school age students, following our progression

  • Work closely and cooperatively with the coaching team to ensure safe and productive lessons

  • Communicate with the Directors, Head Coach, and fellow coaches in a timely and professional manner

  • Teach safety, fair play, respect and sportsmanship during all activities 

  • Maintain a positive learning environment using age-appropriate and effective classroom management techniques.

  • Maintain open, positive and consistent communication with students’ parents by providing feedback and keeping them up-to-date on student progress.

  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism when communicating with parents and administrative staff 

  • Ensure equipment and work spaces are left tidy for other coaches

 

Qualifications:

  • Current Tennis Canada/TPA Instructor certification or national equivalent (minimum)

  • Understanding of the Progressive Tennis model (red, orange, green ball model)

  • Experience coaching children’s tennis lessons or camps

  • Experience working with young people (4 - 13 years old)

  • Up to date Criminal Record Check

  • First Aid/CPR preferred but not mandatory

  • Friendly, caring, hardworking, high-energy, punctual, reliable, and willingness to learn

 

Hours and Compensation:

  • 15 to 30 hours of coaching per week

  • Compensation will be determined based on the candidate's level of qualification and experience

Job Title: Early Childhood Physical Education Teacher

Are you an enthusiastic and energetic early childhood educator that has a passion for physical literacy and working with young children?

Summer Smash Tennis in Vancouver is looking to hire an enthusiastic and energetic early childhood educator with a strong background in teaching physical education. The role of the teacher is to lead half day tennis camps for ages 4 - 7 with support from a Tennis Canada Certified Instructor, focusing on physical literacy and fundamental movement. Camps will run from June 21st - August 27th, 2021. A background in physical education is mandatory. Experience in tennis is an asset.

Training will be administered by Summer Smash Tennis. The teacher’s duties will involve leading children’s camps with support from a Tennis Canada Certified Instructor.

  • Teach fundamental movement and basic tennis to preschool and kindergarten age students, following our progression

  • Work closely and cooperatively with the coaching team to ensure safe and productive lessons

  • Teach safety, fair play, respect, and sportsmanship during all activities 

  • Ensure equipment and work spaces are left tidy for the next teacher

  • Maintain a positive learning environment using age-appropriate and effective classroom management techniques.

  • Maintain open and positive communication with students’ parents by providing feedback regarding student progress when necessary

  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism when communicating with parents and administrative staff 

 

Qualifications

  • B. Ed with Elementary qualifications

  • BC Ministry Teaching Certification or equivalent

  • 2-3 years of full-time elementary teaching experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical & Health Education or Kinesiology is an asset

  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Fundamental Movement Skills Certification is an asset

  • Coaching background is an asset

  • Athletic background is an asset

  • Up to date Criminal Record Check

  • First Aid/CPR preferred but not mandatory

  • 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday
