Adult Spring Programs

We offer spring tennis programs for beginner and more experienced players at multiple locations in Vancouver. Spring programs run from May to June.

Registration takes place through the City of Vancouver's online recreation and activity registry.

Registration is open

Adult Beginner (18+)  

Learn how to play tennis this summer in a small group setting! This course provides an introduction to the game with an eventual progression to rally and play within the full court setting.

Student Background

  • New to tennis or;

  • In the process of developing complete technique for groundstrokes

  • Still developing ability to rally consistently from service line while maintaining proper technique

 

Development Focus

  • Develop a love for tennis and sport in a positive environment

  • Develop and integrate reception and projection skills for movement and tracking 

  • Develop full-motion groundstrokes with modern technique

  • Develop cooperative and competitive rally skills

Adult Beginner Plus+ (2.0)

Continue developing fundamentals skills in a small group setting. This course builds on technique and positioning introduced in Adult Beginner in order to become more confident rallying and playing within the full court setting. Students should have taken Adult Beginner with Summer Smash or have equivalent experience.

 

Student Background

  • Has taken Adult Beginner Clinic or;

  • In the process of developing complete technique for groundstrokes

  • Still developing ability to rally consistently with both forehand and backhand in full court setting

  • Develop a love for tennis and sport in a positive environment

Adult Intermediate (2.5-3.0) 

Improve consistency of groundstrokes, volleys, and serve. An opportunity for players with experience (2.5 – 3.0 NTRP rating) to refine technique while improving reception of wide, high, low, deep, and short balls. Through game-based learning, students will improve their ability to play within cooperative and competitive settings.

 

Student Background

  • Can rally consistently (10+) from the baseline

  • Has some experience with volley and serve

  • In the process of developing correct movement and positioning

  • Refine and integrate reception and projection skills for movement and tracking

Increase the control and dependability of your strokes in different phases of play. An opportunity for more experienced players (3.0 – 3.5 NTRP rating) to improve technique, placement, and positioning in order to play better singles and doubles.

Sweat and swing! This course is an opportunity for players with a playing foundation (2.0 – 3.0 NTRP rating) to get an aerobic and anaerobic workout through tennis specific exercises. Each class includes physical activation, shot-cycle, physical conditioning, and cool-down. Through hand and racket fed shot-cycles, students will have an opportunity to develop better footwork and body mechanics, while practicing their strokes to improve consistency and accuracy.

Adult Intermediate Live Ball (3.0-4.0)

Warmup and play doubles points in a fast-paced and social environment. Live Ball is a doubles-style king of the court game where the instructor feeds the ball in, so no time is wasted in between points. Players are constantly on the move as they rotate and play against each other, while keeping track of individual points.

Tennis+Pickle FIT (18+)

Build toned muscle! Want to move better, prevent injury, and be ready for the physical demands of tennis and pickleball? This introductory level fitness course introduces students to a variety of modern exercises for functional movement. Low impact exercises specific to racket sports work to increase strength and mobility, while developing coordination.

Student Background

  • Physically active and/or;

  • Playing tennis, pickleball, badminton, or squash

Development Focus

  • Develop a love for athletic training in a positive environment

  • Develop familiarity with how to use modern athletic equipment including rollers, balls, bands, weights, and ladders

  • Develop an understanding for how to use and sequence exercises

  • Build toned muscle in key functional areas​
