Learn tennis indoors this fall with our team of expert coaches. Our programs are designed to provide students with a technical foundation that will allow them to maximize their potential as recreational or competitive players.

Kerrisdale Community Centre

Mini Fundamentals (5-6 yrs)

Learn tennis this fall! Prepare your child to excel at tennis and sport with lessons that focus on developing fundamental movement and proprioception. We have fun developing students’ movement, tracking, and racquet skills. An emphasis is placed on learning how to develop coordination and cooperation skills in a group setting.

 

Student Background

  • Has some or no experience in tennis

  • Beginning to develop technique for groundstrokes

 

Development Focus

  • Develop a love for tennis and sport in a positive environment

  • Develop and integrate reception and projection skills for movement and tracking 

  • Develop full-motion groundstrokes with modern technique

  • Develop cooperative and competitive rally skills

Junior Fundamentals (7-9 yrs)

Young beginners with little or no experience are introduced to the game through high energy, game-based lessons that use the ½ stage of the progressive tennis model.  An emphasis is placed on inspiring a love for the game while building a strong technical foundation. 

 

Student Background

  • Beginning to develop technique for groundstrokes

  • Still developing ability to rally consistently (10+) from service line

 

Development Focus

  • Develop a love for tennis and sport in a positive environment

  • Develop and integrate reception and projection skills for movement and tracking 

  • Develop full-motion groundstrokes with modern technique

  • Develop cooperative and competitive rally skills

 

Student Groupings

  • Students will be split into small groups based on age and skill

October 24-December 12

Junior Aces (7-9 yrs)

Young players with some experience continue to develop their skils through high energy, game-based lessons that use the ½ stage of the progressive tennis model.  An emphasis is placed on inspiring a love for the game while building a strong technical foundation.

  • In the process of refining technique for groundstrokes

  • In the process of developing correct movement and positioning 

  • Can rally consistently from service line or farther (¾ court or baseline)

Development Focus

  • Develop a love for tennis and sport in a positive environment

  • Develop and integrate reception and projection skills for movement and tracking 

  • Develop full-motion groundstrokes with modern technique

  • Develop cooperative and competitive rally skills

 

Student Groupings

  • Students will be split into small groups based on age and skill

Adult Doubles Clinic (18+)

Take your doubles game to the next level! An opportunity for players with some experience with the game (completed Adult Beginner or 2.5 – 3.5 NTRP rating) to refine their technical and tactical skills for doubles.  Through game-based learning, students will improve their ability to play within cooperative and competitive settings.

 

Development Focus

  • Refine and integrate reception and projection skills for movement and tracking 

  • Refine and integrate modern groundstrokes technique

  • Refine and integrate modern volley technique

  • Develop cooperative and competitive rally skills for all phases of play

  • Develop strategic awareness for doubles

 

Student Background

  • In the process of refining technique for groundstrokes and volleys

  • In the process of developing correct movement and positioning 

  • Can rally consistently from baseline

  • Has some exposure to volleying

Logistics

  • All students MUST print our activity waiver off from our website and bring a signed copy to the FIRST class

  • All parents and students MUST read and comply with our COVID-19 safety measures: https://www.summersmashtennis.ca/covid-19

  • Lessons take place at Kerrisdale Community Centre

  • Tennis lessons are taught by a Tennis Canada Certified Instructor 

  • Students are expected to bring their own racquets to the lesson, and to come dressed in athletic clothing with athletic shoes

  • Rackets will be available for purchase for $20

  • Students are expected to bring water

  • Masks are optional for students at this time

  • No class Wednesday, November 11
